2015 Lydia Cabrera Award Luncheon widely covered by media

Almost 30 articles have appeared about the ArtesMiami 2015 Lydia Cabrera Award, presented to Nat Chediak, prominent cultural leader, founder of the Miami Film Festival and Grammy and Latin-Grammy-Award-winning producer. The luncheon at which the award was presented was held Friday, July 24, co-presented by U.S. Century Bank, Biltmore Parc and ArtesMiami. 

The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the cultural development of South Florida.  Previous winners were:  Gloria Leal, Luis de la Paz, Carlos Alberto Montaner and Olga Connor. More than 100 leaders attended the luncheon, including writer Carlos Alberto Montaner, who made a presentation about Nat, Steve Krams (Gables Cinema founder), Tom Spencer (former President and one of the founders of the Miami Film Festival), Alirio Torrealba (developer of Biltmore Parc), Carlos Dávila (President of U.S. Century Bank), Myriam Marquez (Executive Editor, El Nuevo Herald); Osmín Martínez (Executive Editor of Diario Las Américas) and many more.

The award, in memory of Lydia Cabrera, world-renowned writer and expert in Afro-Cuban culture, included a $500 cash prize and a work of art by Rodrigo de la Luz, presented by Dr. Aida Levitan, ArtesMiami president, U.S. Century Bank and CEO Carlos Davila, and Alirio Torrealba, Biltmore Parc. Mr. Chediak donated the $500 to Gables Cinema, at which he is serving as the creative consultant.
