November 11, 2024

ArtesMiami is proud to be a major Producing Sponsor of La Viuda Alegre
La Viuda Alegre (The Merry Widow), a free adaptation of the famous musical by Franz Léhar will be presented in Miami for the first time in decades by Tania Marti, Marti Productions. The twenty million francs inherited by Anne of Glavary from her late husband serve as the motivation for the Ambassador's efforts to marry the widow to Count Danilo, a charming young man from Pontevedra renowned in Paris, especially among the dancers of the Restaurant Maxim, in order to prevent the bankruptcy of his country's bank.
An engaging plot of intrigue unfolds, featuring an intense love story between the wealthy widow Anne and Count Danilo. The sophisticated style of a glamorous era, showcased in the majestic ballroom settings, will create the perfect atmosphere for the characters to captivate the audience, drawing them into the story as if they were part of it.
The Merry Widow is not a play to be taken seriously, and that makes it all the more enjoyable. Irreverent and glamorous, this lyrical comedy is like one party after another, filled with music, dance, and fun – there’s even a cancan! There's no death or tragedy in this play. And, although the political fate of an entire nation is at stake, it's the fun that brings the story that matters.
One hundred and twenty years after its first performance on the stage in Vienna, Franz Lehár's "La Viuda Alegre" returns to our Miami stages. The Manuel Artime Theater will witness a new adaptation by Manny Albelo and Marlene Urbay as musical director, featuring a stellar cast, on November 16 and 17, with two unique performances. We hope to see you there!
