As a proud sponsor of the Miami Film Festival’s Cuban Cinema Series, ArtesMiami invites you to this month’s featured documentary exploring the life of self-taught Cuban painter Orlando González Naranjo. Directed by Jorge A. Soliño, the film rediscovers an artist who channeled the pain of his 1984 exile into deeply expressive works that writer Reinaldo Arenas once called “an invitation that entices.” His paintings became a refuge, filled with nostalgic rural scenes and the faces of his lost country. Though Naranjo remained on the margins of the commercial art world, his moving story serves as a profound exploration of human fragility and the enduring power of art as a homeland when all other anchors are lost.

Cuban Cinema Series was founded and directed in 1993 by renowned film critic and author Alejandro Ríos, who continues to direct it today.

Presented by the Miami Film Festival, each screening features special appearances by filmmakers and guest speakers.
