Yiddish Wisdom Box

Wood box, carved and painted.  I spent the better part of my childhood growing up on Miami Beach with a lot of Jewish and Yiddish influences.  This is in honor of those years and all the amazing culture nuances I picked up. Needless to say, they fare well with my Cuban roots.  Each box is hand carved, you will notice that all lines are composed of dots, I am still currently teaching myself how to use the tool.  It has a nasty habit of getting a tad bit hot and my small digits take quick offense. The figures are created in clay, baked, glossed and placed on the box after the box has been stained.  Depending on the size of the piece this can take anywhere from 5 hours to a day or two.

ArtesMiami sponsors literary events and plans Poesia Gourmet presentations

ArtesMiami sponsors literary events such as the presentations of Gloria Leal's book and Luis de la Paz's short story collection at the Spanish Cultural Center, poetry readings by Rodrigo de la Luz, and presentations by 32 poets from the book "La Ciudad de la Unidad Posible."

ArtesMiami also plans to organize readings by South Florida poets at gourmet restaurants.  Limited to 30 participants, each event would include a three-course lunch or dinner and poetry reading by the selected poet/s.  For more information (and sponsorship opportunities) please write to alevitan@artesmiami.org.

Lunch:        $45 per person
Dinner:       $60 per person
Reception:   $30 per person

The first Poesía Gourmet events, took place in the Fall of 2009 at Books & Books in Coral Gables, Florida, and on November 8th at the Miami Book Fair International.  They featured POESIA VIVA by Rodrigo de la Luz and LA CIUDAD DE LA UNIDAD POSIBLE, a collection of South Florida poetry (in Spanish), published by Editorial Ultramar. The events included tapas and wine receptions.
